Incumbents of Cogges Churchwardens of Cogges Main Menu

This list is made from entries found on the website 'British History Online/Cogges Church', and also from the transcription made in 1974 by Brigadier Goadby taken from the Oxfordshire Family History Society fiche of Cogges Parish Registers.
The list is rather patchy in the earlier years.
Entries after 1974 have been inserted by Gill Curwood in 2005.

The early priests seem to have been chaplains appointed, after 1103, by the priors. Eton College later appointed chaplains, sometimes called perpetual vicars and perpetual curates.

“The living is a Perpetual Curacy and although the incumbent is known by courtesy as Vicar, curates are only licensed and not instituted. In this diocese licences are only recorded from the end of the 18th century. This list is complied from internal evidence in the Registers, and ignores Ministers who appear to be officiating temporarily.” F R L Goadby.
